Saracens Pros at Tie Ceremony

The new Year 7s at Saracens High were welcomed into the Saracens family by their professional rugby playing ‘aunties and uncles’!

Families came to support their immaculately dressed children at the auspicious tie presentation ceremony where Saracens players presented pupils with a house tie. The children discovered which house they will be in and learnt a little about the inspiring individuals the houses are named after.

We’re delighted with the positive start this year group has made, as they’ve settled into their new learning groups and have started learning ‘The Saracens Way’, including our values: discipline; hard work; honesty; and humility. We look forward to seeing these new members of our community taking every opportunity presented to them, starting with getting involved in the many lunchtime and after school clubs on offer.

Well done Year 7 (and their families) on a fantastic start and thank you to Saracens Rugby Club for supporting our pupils and extending such a warm welcome.

Gold Award for Social Mobility

We are thrilled that Saracens High School has been awarded the Fair School Admissions gold award from the Sutton Trust for two consecutive years.

This award is enormously important as it recognises our commitment to social mobility and to ensuring that all young people have access to the best education we can provide them.

Saracens High School’s Pupil Premium Progress 8 score is around 0.95. That means children in our school achieve a full grade and a half better than the national average for that demographic in each of their GCSE subjects. 87% of our Free School Meal pupils are heading to university this year and 19% of those are going to Russell Group universities – that’s four times the national average for this demographic! These are extraordinary achievements and we’re grateful to every member of our community – staff, students and families – for the hard work they put in to make this happen.

Fully Funded Apprenticeships

We are delighted to celebrate the outstanding success of two T Level alumni from Saracens High School who have secured fully funded degree apprenticeships following their work placements.

Zakariya – Digital T Level

Zak has secured a fully funded degree apprenticeship with TechStart, a not-for-profit organisation with a strong social impact focus. During his work placement, Zak developed and maintained websites for clients across the real estate, recruitment, software and technology sectors. He gained valuable hands-on experience building website functionality using Python, SQL, HTML and CSS, as well as working with databases and structured data to create data-driven features.

Hamza – Business T Level

Hamza has secured a fully funded degree apprenticeship in quantity surveying with Quinn London, a leading construction company. During his T Level work placement, Hamza gained experience across a range of departments, including property services, the Homerton NEC project team, heritage, supply chain, procurement and human resources. He developed practical skills in scheduling, project management and stakeholder engagement, providing an excellent foundation for his future career.

T Level work placements help students develop valuable professional skills and can lead to degree funding and future employment.

We are pleased to announce that TechStart and Quinn London are going to continue offering work placements to T Level students from Saracens High School. We look forward to seeing more students benefiting from these partnerships and, hopefully, following in Zak and Hamza’s footsteps!

New Principal at Saracens Broadfields

Saracens Broadfields joined Saracens Education last October and are going from strength to strength:

  • Highest ever timetables check outcomes (23.23 average score)
  • Highest yet ‘Good’ level of development outcomes at 72.8% for our Early Years pupils.
  • Pupil Premium pupils outperformed their more advantaged peers in KS2 reading

The Year 6 leavers who chose to continue their education with Saracens Education have made a successful transition to Saracens High School, maturing in the values we share across all of our schools and indeed with Saracens as well.

It’s into this successful context that Sarah Marriott has taken up the role of principal of the primary school and nursery in Edgware, north London.

Sarah has experience of working in a number of primary schools and comes to us from a nine year term as the headteacher of Pinner Wood School where they achieved ‘outstanding’ from Ofsted in all areas.

Sarah explains why moving to Saracens Broadfields was such an easy decision:

‘The moment I walked into Saracens Broadfields, I knew this was the place for me. I was immediately struck by the warmth of our community, the dedication of our strong staff team, and our truly exceptional facilities – it genuinely feels like a little countryside in the city!’

We’re delighted to welcome Sarah to the Saracens family and look forward to sharing many stories throughout her first year of how our vision is being fulfilled across all of our schools: ‘Enriching lives through education by developing lifelong learners who will thrive in life beyond school.’

GCSE Success at Saracens High

This morning marks another day of celebration for Saracens High School as we reflect on this year’s fantastic GCSE results. Achieving results well above the expected national averages across every headline measure is an extraordinary accomplishment for our pupils and staff alike.

Among the standout highlights, our Pupil Premium students – making up 58% of the cohort – achieved remarkable success, even outperforming their non-pupil premium peers. Furthermore, initial progress estimates indicate exceptional value added across the board, reflecting the difference it makes when our whole school community lives our values of discipline, hard work, honesty and humility.

Applications are now officially open for Saracens Sixth Form and we look forward to welcoming back many of our students in September as they start their A Level and T Level studies.

Life Changing KS5 Results

We firmly believe the true measure of a school is where its students go next. Given our unique context and the community we serve, this year’s exceptional achievements will truly transform lives. 77% of our Free School Meals (FSM) children are progressing to university which is three times the national average for this demographic. 13% of those are heading to Russell Group universities which, again, is three times the national average!

Our second cohort of alumni have secured places at prestigious institutions including Durham, UCL, York, Exeter, Nottingham, and Queen Mary. They are embarking on diverse degree courses ranging from Aerospace Engineering and Law to Culinary Arts Management, alongside competitive degree apprenticeships in Accounting.

Particular congratulations go to our top performers: Yassine (A*A*A)—who scored an incredible 97% across his Maths and Further Maths papers—and Freddie (A*AA). The following students achieved an average of straight As: Sana, Rei, Mohammad, Husna, and Jeilani.

Our T Level cohort has achieved equally inspiring industry outcomes across Health, Digital, and Business, progressing into fields like AI, Cyber Security, and Nursing. Kian made school history by earning our first T Level Business Distinction after starting on our Year 12 foundation track.

We are also thrilled that three students are entering child-focused degree courses and we look forward to welcoming them back via our Saracens SCITT programme in a few years’ time!

Student Challenge

Three A Level students from Saracens High School had no sooner finished their exams than they were scarpering up the three highest mountains in the UK, all within 24 hours, for the Three Peaks Challenge. Quick quiz: Can you name the three highest mountains in the UK? Answers below.*

We are thrilled to share that our adventurous alumni completed the challenge and met their fundraising target of £1500 for Saracens Foundation. Saracens Foundation do brilliant work in our community and were incredibly touched that these students had taken the initiative to raise money to support this work.

After they’ve had a few days to recover, we look forward to hearing more about the highs and lows of working together as they trekked in blazing sunshine, reaching snow-capped peaks, and needed head torches as darkness fell. Photos from the challenge are breathtaking and we’re sure these young men will remember this adventure for the rest of their lives.

We hope this is the start of many fundraising initiatives by pupils and alumni from across our schools. Congratulations Haroon, Adam and Freddie!

*The three highest mountains in the UK are…Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scarfell Pike (England) and Snowdon (Wales)

Careers Event

Saracens High School holds an annual whole-school careers fair, My Future, My Choice. This year more than sixty professionals from over forty organisations came into school to share their careers with pupils in Years 7 to 10. From law, finance and energy to midwifery, construction, technology and television, the young people heard first-hand what these jobs really involve, the skills they take, and the very different routes people followed to get there.

Across the afternoon, the children visited four different talks, moving between rooms to meet professionals from an extraordinary range of industries. There were plenty of memorable moments – Octopus Energy brought an electric car onto the playground and a gardener delighted pupils with a leaf blower, a brilliant reminder that hands-on, practical careers are every bit as valuable as the rest. The buzz around school was wonderful to see: attentive listening, thoughtful questions, and pupils living our values of discipline, hard work, honesty and humility throughout.

Our heartfelt thanks go to every visitor who gave their time so generously and to our wonderful trustees and governors for making some of these key introductions for us. Afterwards, Saracens pupils reflected on what they’d seen and what it might mean for their own futures, and many left talking about a job or a path they’d never considered before. That is exactly what My Future, My Choice is all about, and we can’t wait to make next year’s event even better.

National Teaching Award

We’re pleased to share that Saracens High School has been awarded bronze in the national Pearson Teaching Awards for being a secondary school that is making a difference.

This award recognises the role of each member of the school team in living our values and fulfilling the vision of enriching lives through education by developing lifelong learners who will thrive in life beyond school.

Well done everyone!

Student Fundraising For Saracens Foudation

Three Year 13 students from Saracens High School have decided to take-on a climbing challenge across the British isles to raise money for the Saracens Foundation. Here’s the challenge in their own words:

We’re a group of friends who’ve collectively been part of Saracens High School for over two decades, and rooted in the community for even longer.

This challenge is our way of giving back to the community and our Saracens family that’s given us so much over the years. The Saracens Foundation does incredible work changing lives across Barnet and beyond – from mentoring young people to supporting families facing hardship. We want to play our part.

We’ve been inspired by our Duke of Edinburgh exploits and the urge to push ourselves, give back, and support others who need it. So we’re taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge – climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon back-to-back, all within 24 hours.

Every step will be self-funded. 100% of your donations go directly to the Saracens Foundation – we’re covering all travel, accommodation and other costs ourselves.

If you can spare anything to support the foundation’s work, it’ll keep us going up those mountains and make a real difference on the ground in our community. CLICK HERE to place a donation through our JustGiving page.

Thank you for being part of this with us,

Haroon, Adam and Freddie
